Historical Background
Al-Jadira is a village in the Jerusalem Governorate, northwest of Jerusalem city, approximately 3.9 km from its center. It is bordered by Qalandiya (east), Bir Nabala (south), Rafat (north), and Al-Jib (west). The village is 737 meters above sea level.
The origin of the village's name has three explanations:
- It was originally a sheep pen, hence "Al-Jadira".
- It was a garden area, considered worthy of cultivation.
- "Al-Jadira" means "island" due to fertile land and abundant water.
Its residents originally came from Yemen and Al-Arish in Egypt. The village dates back to the Roman era.
